Vineyards, Farms and Restaurants of the North Fork

The North Fork of Long Island is home to more than 40 wineries and 3,000 acres of planted vineyards. The closest vineyard, Baiting Hollow Vineyard, is less than 2 miles from the cottage. It's a great place to enjoy live entertainment, great wine, beautiful views and then it's a short ride back to the cottage if you've enjoyed your wine a little too much!

There is plenty more to discover, with about 40 more wineries along the 20+ mile stretch toward Orient Point.  Additional LI spirits can be found at several breweries and the Riverhead Ciderhouse (less tha 2 miles away).

Check out the many farms for fresh pies, jellies and produce. A favorite for pies is Briermeyer Farm, 7 miles from cottage.

In  the fall enjoy apple and pumkin picking.   Lavendar by the Bay Farm is in bloom in June/July, and always open to purchase lavendar products.

Kids' Stuff & Shopping

Just 4 miles from the cottage is Splish Splash, a great water park to spend the entire day. Another fun kid's place is also close by, the Long Island Aquarium in Riverhead (7 miles away). When you are farther out east, visit the Children's Museum of the East End in East Hampton.(30 miles)

Tanger Outlets are just 6 miles away, along with lots of your standard big box stores like Walmart for your convenience.

North Fork Beaches and Towns

North fork beaches are on the Long Island Sound and the Peconic Bay. They are rocky, so bring your water shoes. We enjoy the north fork beaches for beautiful views, the tall cliffs at some beaches, long walks and seaglass hunting,  paddleboarding and the calm water is great for young children. Spend time at either our community beach or one of the many beaches on the north fork.

Visit the beautiful towns of Mattituck, Southold and Greenport. There are lots of restaurants to choose from. We like to get dinner at Claudio's Restaurant on the water. Or hop on the ferry in Greenport to go to Shelter Island. You can even continue across Shelter Island to use the south ferry to go to the beautiful town of Sag Harbor on the south fork.  Drive all the way to the end of the north fork, and you come to Orient Point. There you can hop on a ferry to Block Island which is part of Rhode Island.
